A BIG Thank You for the BIG Serve

Well, our 6th annual BIG Serve was a BIG success, so a BIG thank you to everyone who participated. Part of Dallas Thunder’s culture is to be servant leaders and service-minded. And although the BIG Serve is a great reminder of our culture it doesn’t stop there. We serve others at the facility where we practice, in the gyms where we play, and when we are out in our community together. We make a positive impact by cleaning up after ourselves and others, by respecting others, and by being Christlike with friends and competition. I’m proud to be a part of the Dallas Thunder and the heritage that’s been passed down over 17 years.

During the BIG Serve we helped 5 organizations and had over 100 people serving, thank you all! If you missed out, then you missed out on one of the best days of the season – no one got hurt and all of our teams won! I’m so proud of what we accomplished and everyone’s willingness to serve during the pandemic! Here’s what happened:

  • Girls 12U through 18U – Lovepacs in Plano where we packed over 150 boxes for kids in need to help them out during the upcoming Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks. Thanks to everyone that donated food, it made a difference! We want to continue serving the community with them.
  • 16U and 18U Boys – Texas Therapeutic Riding Center – these teams did a ton of work, the Center kept adding tasks as the teams knocked them out! This list was long and the appreciation expressed by the volunteers at the Center was evident.
  • 14U Boys – Waterbrook Bible Church – this church has been a blessing to Thunder over the years, letting us use the facility for meetings and ceremonies and we were blessed to help them out cleaning chairs, power washing, and cleaning up a tree line. Pastor Don Moore was extremely thankful!
  • 12U Boys – Garland Dream Center – we have served at the Dream Center several times in the last 18 months and it is a very special organization. They help underprivileged kids in Garland with school, extracurricular activities and they share the gospel with them too. This time we organized and inventoried 1.5 trailer containers. This year the Dream Center’s demand has quadrupled, we want to go back and help out again!
  • 10U boys – Murphy Recreation Center – the boys ‘showed up and showed out’ in the community that hosts us as an organization. They were cleaning and pulling weeds around the facilities that our families sometimes use when in Murphy.

I’ll quote my wife to sum things up, “It feels good to help those in need.”  Let’s keep that feeling going throughout the season, as best we can!  There is still time to turn in donation checks to Dana Geerts at practice, please include an envelope with your name and donor’s name.
